Do You Deliver VBACs at The Birth Center of New Jersey?

A lot of mothers don’t know that they can attempt a vaginal birth for a second baby after a prior C-section. It is called Vaginal Birth After Cesarean or VBAC. While VBAC has a success rate of 60-80%, it can only be attempted under certain circumstances if the mother qualifies for it.

Do you deliver VBACs at The Birth Center Of New Jersey?

Yes, we do. However, we can only deliver proven VBACs. This means that if you’ve had a previous successful VBAC, you’re eligible for another at our birth center.

If this is your first time, unfortunately, we can’t provide birth services for you at the birth center for this pregnancy. This is to ensure your and your baby’s safety since a first-time VBAC requires closer monitoring and an emergency C-section option as a backup, which the birth center doesn’t offer. We recommend attempting first VBAC in a hospital setting to ensure all last-minute resources are available when you need them.

How Will I Know If I Qualify?

Generally, if you have had a successful VBAC before, you can probably deliver at the birth center. But to be sure, we will consult with you during a visit to determine your eligibility for a VBAC at the birth center.

What Options Do I Have if I Don’t Qualify for A VBAC At The Birth Center?

For those interested in a first-time VBAC, while we cannot have you deliver at the birth center, we can manage all moms at the hospital for their first attempt. You will receive prenatal care with us through Artemis OB/GYN, and then we will provide ongoing support in a hospital setting for your birth.
