Water Birth at The Birth Center of New Jersey
Water birth is becoming increasingly popular due to its pain-lowering and anxiety-releasing benefits. The Birth Center Of New Jersey proudly offers water birth to all our clients in our state of the art birth center.
Anyone who qualifies for a safe natural birth can opt for a water birth if they want.
Are the birth suites set up for water birth?
Yes, the birth suites at our birth center are set up for water birth. They come with large birth tubs that are specifically designed for water birth and have specialized features for a comfortable experience.
How long can I be in the water?
If you enter the water too early, it might stall your labor, since a bit of active movement often helps you dilate and progress labor. Being stationary in water may halt that for some, causing your labor to go on longer than expected. Instead, we suggest getting into the water when you begin having active contractions.
Once you’re in active labor, you can stay in the water until your baby is born and even afterward if you’d like. Your midwife will guide you in the timing of your use of the birth tub.
What does water help with?
The buoyancy of the water alleviates gravitational pressure, can lessen the sensation of back pain, and makes labor slightly more comfortable for many.
The warmth of the water also significantly helps with pain management since it helps the mother relax, which in turn causes your brain to release endorphins. This lessens the feeling of pain and helps the mother focus on efficient pushing.
