Are You Interested in Home Birth?
Home birth is becoming increasingly popular with those who want to have an unmedicated birth.
Giving birth at home, in a familiar surrounding promotes relaxation and alleviates some of the anxiety associated with labor has become a more popular option. This environment helps mothers relax, reducing the need for analgesia and other birth interventions. However, for those seeking the feel of a home birth with greater safety restrictions, a birth center birth may be a perfect choice.
Does the birth center offer home birth?
The birth center does not offer home births. However, home birth midwives can collaborate with the birth center to provide a home-like feel. There are many advantages to a birth center birth for those seeking a home birth with the added safety controls of a birth center.
We have a team of community midwives on board who are familiar with home birth practices. They also have attending privileges at the birth center.
Who is better suited for a home birth?
As great as home births are, they might only be suitable for some.
The criteria for a home birth in New Jersey is:
- Singleton baby (no twins)
- No previous C-sections
- No surgeries on the cervix or uterus
- Past surgeries evaluated individually
- Certain disorders that may preclude a home birth
Home births are for low-risk individuals seeking a natural birth. If you have a medical condition that complicates your pregnancy or you have had a complicated pregnancy in the past, you might not be suitable for a home birth since it puts you and your baby at a greater risk.
We discuss eligibility with each client to make sure they meet the criteria for a birth center birth. Feel free to make an appointment at the birth center to speak with our healthcare providers for better evaluation or give us a call!
